When does a compass need adjusting?
In accordance with the MCA regulations (Annex 13 - Adjustment of Compasses) a compass requires adjusting when:

  • they are first installed

  • they become unreliable

  • the ship undergoes structural repairs or alterations that could affect its permanent and induced magnetism

  • electrical or magnetic equipment close to the compass is added, removed or altered

  • a period of two years has elapsed since the last adjustment and a record of compass deviations has not been maintained, or the recorded deviations are excessive or when the compass shows physical defects.

Compass Repairs

Compass Service & Repairs

Our MCA qualified Compass Adjusters can provide a service to all Ports in the UK and across the globe. Compasses can be taken back to our workshop for repairs if deemed necessary. We can provide old and new parts for broken or damaged equipment. It is a SOLAS requirement to have your compass fully adjusted and in good working order.

Personal Gas Alarms

Personal Gas Safety Monitors

In November 2014 IMO approved amendments to SOLAS in the form of new SOLAS regulation XI-1/7, made it mandatory for all applicable vessels to carry portable gas detectors. We can provide, repair and maintain these. We have a wide range of BW Products so please contact for further details.

Seath-Haztec Gas Control & Alarm Systems

The Haztec range of gas control systems is manufactured by Seath Instruments in the UK. Designed to provide a total gas detection solution from one manufacturer, the systems are available with one or two carbon monoxide (CO) or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) detectors, standard or "no volt" latching gas valve, optional remote sounder and 12v or 24v supply.

Operation of the gas valve is by single power switch on the main console, which also sets the unit in motion. Detection of either LPG or CO will cause the unit to shut the gas valve and so eliminate further problems, the built in alarm will sound and trigger the remote sounder, if fitted. An alarm test button is also featured. The unit has a fail-safe system in the event of power failure and will automatically close the gas valve so as to not to leave the vessel unprotected.
