When Does a Compass Need Adjusting?
According to MCA regulations (Annex 13 - Adjustment of Compasses), a compass must be adjusted when:

A new compass is installed on a vessel.

The compass becomes unreliable or shows excessive deviation.

Structural repairs or modifications to the vessel affect its magnetism.

Electrical or magnetic equipment near the compass is added, removed, or altered.

No deviation records exist for over two years, or recorded deviations are excessive.

The compass shows physical defects such as bubbles, cracks, or discoloration.
